I’m a feminist but I don’t support disrespectful wives – Funke Akindele reveals
Funke Akindele: "I’m a Feminist, But I Don’t Support Women Disrespecting Their Husbands"

Renowned Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele has clarified her stance on feminism, stating that while she identifies as a feminist, she does not condone women being disrespectful to their husbands.
Akindele made this statement in a recent video addressing skit maker Kamo State and his wife. She emphasized that feminism is about advocating political, economic, and social equality for women, not encouraging disrespect in relationships.
She dismissed the notion that women are the “weaker sex,” describing them as strong and bold, and urged men to treat women with respect and special care rather than confining them to traditional roles.
“I’m a feminist, but I do not support a woman disrespecting her husband. Do what is right. We are not the weaker sex or vessel. Men should treat us specially and respect us. Women should also secure financial independence to support their husbands.”
Funke Akindele’s Marriage & Separation
Akindele was previously married to producer and singer Abdulrasheed ‘JJC Skillz’ Bello. The couple tied the knot in London in 2016 and welcomed a set of twin boys in 2018. However, in June 2022, JJC Skillz announced their separation, citing irreconcilable differences and stating that all efforts to resolve the issues had failed.
Despite personal challenges, Akindele continues to advocate for women’s empowerment, financial independence, and respect within marriage.
